Last week, Noelridge Park in Cedar Rapids hosted the Mississippi Valley Conference Cross Country Super Meet. During the junior varsity race, Evan Hansen of Iowa City High noticed Cedar Rapids Washington runner Adam Todd had gotten off the course. Todd suffers from epilepsy and associated autism, but that doesn't stop him from competing. When Hansen encountered his fellow competitor in need of assistance, he came to his aid. He guided Adam back to the course and hand-in-hand they ran the last mile-and-a-half of the race.

Friday night, ABC World News Tonight honored them both as Persons of the Week.

Thank you for the wonderful reminder that it's not always about winning the race because having a kind heart and lending a helping hand are much more important. A win is forgotten but when you do something like this, it's remembered forever.
