We've got news about three bakeries in our area that are making some big changes!

Let's start with a popular bakery over in Solon called The Eat Shop. According to a recent article from the Cedar Rapids Gazette, the Eat Shop is getting ready to open their brand new location over in Marion early next year!

The Eat Shop's second location will be at 1107 7th Ave in Marion, which is right on the corner of the Broad & Main apartment building. The Gazette reports that it has over 3,300 square feet of dining and kitchen space, as well as an outdoor patio and a private room for parties and classes.

Much like their Solon location, the Eat Shop in Marion will offer sweets. But, that's not all they'll be serving! The eatery will also offer sandwiches, flatbreads, soups, salads, and fresh bread that's made in-house. The Eat Shop will hold its grand opening on February 1st of 2025.

Next up is Sweetopia Emporium. The bad news is that Sweetopia officially closed its location in the Collins Road Square on Sunday, November 24th. The good news is that Sweetopia will have a new storefront in Central City at 449 E Main Street! An article from the Cedar Rapids Gazette reads:

"Operations will be combined with its production site at 49 Fifth St. South in Central City, where it has been operating since 2019."

The latest update from Sweetopia is from Thanksgiving, and it says they are in the process of finishing their new storefront. The Facebook page also notes:

"...we will continue to offer everything that we currently do with the options to pick up orders in two different MARION locations, delivery or in Central City. We are looking at grubhub, doordash, and a couple others to see which one will be best for our customers."

The final piece of bakery news comes from a shop in Mount Vernon. White Tree Bakery, which is currently located at 100 1st Street SW, is going to be taking over the former home of Palisades Cafe at 117 1st St W! The official announcement from November reads:

"Well, the cupcakes outta the bag. WE'RE MOVING!!!

We purchased the equipment and trappings of the old Palisades Cafe and will be moving at the beginning of the year! We are currently renovating the space to fit our needs. Stay tuned for updates!"

Palisades Cafe closed in August after around eight years in business. You can follow White Tree Bakery's Facebook page for the latest updates HERE.
