Third Child Dies After Crash On I-80
It's a headline that makes everyone who reads it a little sick to their stomach. No one likes to read about accidents, but when there are fatalities, especially children, we all shed an extra tear. An accident on Interstate 80 on Sunday afternoon has now claimed a third life.
The crash happened Sunday afternoon at around 1:10 p.m. on I-80 near the Oxford interchange. The Iowa State Patrol says that a vehicle driving westbound attempted to turn around at a 'no turn around' crossover. The car was broadsided by an oncoming semi truck.
There were five people in the car at the time of the collision. Two twelve-year-olds, Braden Brown and Adaess Adams were killed, as was 11-year-old Oneimus Quaterman. All were from Cedar Rapids. Two others remain hospitalized. Their conditions are not being released.
It is not known if the occupants of the car were wearing seatbelts. The accident shut down I-80 for hours.
