I don't do this often, but I want to tell you a personal story. I lost my mother 11 years ago, just a week prior to Mothers' Day that year, and this time of year always gives me extra pause to think about the type of person she was. Mothers' Day is right around the corner, on May 9th if you can believe it, and if you're still thinking about what to get her, a new survey has come out from PR Newswire that looks at what Moms want most. Specifically, what they don't want, or the things that annoy them or disappoint them the most on Mother's Day.

My Mom never really wanted "stuff", she wanted "time" and with the added pressures of the pandemic they could probably use a break this year more than ever. That's what the survey confirms. The Top 5 things that Moms want for Mother's Day:

  • 70 percent wish for time to themselves on that day
  • 51 percent want a good night's sleep, so don't wake her up early on Mother's Day!
  • 40 percent want pampering, i.e. a day at the spa, massage, or manicure
  • 38 percent want a night out with friends

The one thing that would disappoint Mom the most on Mother's Day is having to clean up after the party you threw for her or the meal you made for her. Sort of defeats the purpose, right?

The moral of the story is: moms aren't difficult to please. Just take her out for dinner, or make her one, and clean up afterward so she can prepare for that night out with friends or a night in full of rest for as long as she wants. (She probably wouldn't turn down a bouquet of flowers.)

Happy Mother's Day!
