Iowa Trick-Or-Treaters’ Favorite Candy
When it comes to Halloween, dressing up, trick-or-treating, costume parties, and haunted houses are a good time. But, you could argue that the best part of the holiday is that you have an excuse to eat entire bags of candy! Whether you trick-or-treated for it, or bought it FOR trick-or-treaters and wound up eating one or two, or ten pieces is besides the point.
When it comes to Halloween candy, we buy a lot of it and we eat a lot of it. According to candystore.com, the National Retail Federation reports that $2.7 billion (yes, BILLION!) is expected to be spent on trick-or-treat candy this year.
The kind of candy bought varies, as every state has their own taste. To find the most popular Halloween candy in each state, Candystore.com looked at ten years of sales data from 2007-2016, particularly at the months leading up to Halloween. Then, broke that data down by state to see which candies were sold the most in each.
For Iowa, the Halloween candy that people crave the most are Reese's Peanut Butter Cups with 58,974 pounds sold!

Iowans' second choice is M&M's with 53,982 pounds sold, followed by Butterfinger with 25,782 pounds. That's a lot of candy!
Now you'll know exactly what to buy this Halloween. Just try not to eat half the bag this year.
