Happy National Sandwich Day!

Yeah, we know that today is Election Day here in the U.S., but we are going to take a quick break from politics and discuss a different holiday that's a litttttttle bit less stressful!

November 3rd is National Sandwich Day, and to celebrate, the website Zippia decided to figure out the top sandwiches in all 50 states. To figure out the sandwich that each state is the biggest fan of, they examined 40 types of sandwiches using Google Trends. I can tell you right now that I think this list is pretty accurate just based on the winner for Iowa!

Not surprisingly, Iowa's favorite sandwich is the pork tenderloin sandwich. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out, especially considering that we have a statewide contest each year to determine who serves the best one. That honor was bestowed upon PrairieMoon on Main in Prairieburg just last month (read more about that HERE).

Some of the top sandwiches in surrounding states include:

  • Wisconsin - Tuna Sandwich
  • Minnesota - Fried Egg Sandwich
  • Missouri - Chicken Sandwich
  • Nebraska - Peanut Butter & Jelly
  • South Dakota - Fluffernutter
  • Illinois - Italian Beef

You can check out more results from the study HERE.

In honor of today's holiday, here are a few of my favorite sandwiches here in Eastern Iowa:
