The NewBo District has a brand new bar and restaurant that is going to blow your mind!

On Friday, a couple of coworkers and I headed to lunch at The Bohemian, a brand new bar and restaurant that just opened in Cedar Rapids a few weeks ago. It's located at 1029 3rd Street SE right across the street from RAYGUN, but I don't think you'll need directions to find it because it's hard to miss. Just look for the rooftop patio or the giant mural on the side of the building:

The building that houses The Bohemian was built back in 1893 by a Czechoslovakian family, and the combination of old and new is what makes the place truly unique. Some of the features include a spiral staircase, a wine cellar, three fireplaces, multiple bars, stained glass windows, a rooftop area with retractable ceilings and walls, and lots and LOTS of art. In fact, there's so much art that one of the owners actually wrote a book about it, which you can find on various tables throughout the building's three floors.

If you ask, the owners Michael & Lynette Richards are more than willing to take you on a full tour of The Bohemian. We took ours while we waited for our lunch, and I was truly amazed. It's probably one of the coolest, most unique buildings I've ever seen. Every detail, from the lights to the curtains to the tables, has been thoughtfully selected. I took a ton of photos while I was there, but they don't do the place justice. It's something you really need to see for yourself!

And speaking of lunch, the menu is also pretty unique. The rotating daily options are posted on a colorful chalk board when you enter the building, and then you place your order at the counter and receive a buzzer to let you know when your food is done. I ordered the burnt ends and a side of mac & cheese, and one of my friends ordered the Bohemian Meatloaf Burger with fries.

As of right now, the main floor of the Bohemian is the only one that's technically "open," because the establishment is opening in phases. Their current hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday & Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with food available Wednesday through Sunday. They hope to have an official grand opening celebration on the 4th of July. For more information, you can visit the website HERE.
