The injury happened in the first minute of Iowa's last home game against Ohio State. Guard Taylor McCabe suffered a knee injury and had to be helped from the court. Monday, Iowa women's basketball fans got the news they feared.

Iowa Loses Top Shooting Guard for the Year

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that Iowa women's coach Jan Jensen was "hoping against hope" that Taylor McCabe's injury on Sunday wasn't season-ending. On Monday, an MRI confirmed that McCabe suffered a torn ACL in her left knee and was done for the year. Unfortunately for the Iowa senior, it also means an end to her Hawkeye career.


McCabe One of Iowa's Top Three-Point Shooters

McCabe's injury means Iowa loses one of its top three-point shooters. The Gazette reports that McCabe ranks 11th in career three-point makes and is tied for #1 in career three-point percentage. McCabe was a member of Iowa's 2023 and 2024 national runner-up teams and will graduate in May with a degree in civil engineering, according to the Gazette.

McCabe's Sister Also Injured on Sunday

It was a rough day for the McCabe family on Sunday. Not only did Taylor suffer a season-ending injury, but her sister Peyton, who plays for Drake, was also carried off the floor with a severe injury. Hawk Central reports that it was an ankle injury, and no update has been given on her status for the rest of the season.


Moving On Without McCabe

The Gazette reports that with McCabe out for the season, it will likely mean more minutes for freshman Addie Deal, who scored a career high 20 points against Ohio State on Sunday.
