Investigators say that surveillance footage from the evening of July 18 played a critical role in the investigation. It showed Tibbetts jogging in a rural area of Brooklyn and caught Rivera's vehicle in that same area. Rivera reportedly told officials that he followed Tibbetts in his vehicle and "allegedly ran alongside or behind her", according to the Des Moines Register. He was willing to speak with investigators and led them to Tibbetts' body, which was "found in a cornfield southeast of Brooklyn with corn stalks on top of her" according to Iowa DCI Special Agent Rick Rahn.

Rivera has reportedly resided in the rural Poweshiek County area for 4-7 years and is an undocumented immigrant. He has been charged with first-degree murder. We will continue to update this story as more information is released. Our hearts go out to Mollie's family during this difficult time.
