Study Ranks Iowa As 6th Safest State
A new study has revealed that Iowa is the 6th safest state compared to the other 49 states.
With recent violent riots, a global pandemic, everyday crime, natural disasters, car crashes, and many other things that put our lives in danger, it's pretty easy to feel unsafe. WalletHub recently revealed its results for a study they conducted to find which states are the safest in the United States of America.
In WalletHub's post, it says that in 2020 the coronavirus pandemic has killed around 100,000 Americans and infected nearly 1.7 million as of late-May. In 2019, 38,000 people died in car crashes and there were around 15,200 gun-related deaths (non-suicide).
For WalletHub to find out the safest states in America, they compared the 50 states across 53 key safety indicators grouped into five different categories. Those categories include,
- Personal & Residential Safety
- Financial Safety
- Road Safety
- Workplace Safety
- Emergency Preparedness
WalletHub's data ranges from the state’s coronavirus support to assaults per capita and the unemployment rate. In their findings, they found that Maine was the safest state with a Personal & Residential Safety ranking at 1, Financial Safety ranking at 20, Road Safety ranking at 1, Workplace Safety ranking at 22, and Emergency Preparedness ranking at 1.
Iowa came in sixth with a Personal & Residential Safety ranking at 3, Financial Safety ranking at 3, Road Safety ranking at 4, Workplace Safety ranking at 10, and Emergency Preparedness ranking at 44.
Iowa also tied for first for the lowest unemployment rate. Iowa also ranked fifth for the lowest share of uninsured population.
Illinois fell in the 35th ranking with a Personal & Residential Safety ranking at 33, Financial Safety ranking at 41, Road Safety ranking at 9, Workplace Safety ranking at 25, and Emergency Preparedness ranking at 34.
