If you're one of those people that takes the time to make your bed every morning, science is telling you to stop!

The short reason for this? Dust mites.

The longer reason? Dust mites are living in your bed and they thrive on your warm sheets.

Dust mites are these gross, microscopic critters that feed off the dead skin cells that we leave on our sheets every night. The average bed has about 1.5 million of them crawling around! The mites leave their microscopic waste all over the place, which can cause allergies to flare up and can even cause asthma.

While you're sleeping, your skin is flaking off all over the place, which means the dust mites are at an all-you-can eat buffet. When you wake up and immediately make your bed, you are trapping all of the dust mites in your bed, and because your sheets are still moist and warm from your sleeping body, they are thriving in there. The solution to this is to NOT MAKE YOUR BED. When your sheets are able to air out all of their moisture, the dust mites are exposed to fresh air and light, and they will dehydrate and die.

So there you have it! You officially have one less chore to worry about. Leave that bed messy! Science said to, and you can't argue with science! I haven't made my bed in like.. 10 years so I have no concerns.
