Rumors are getting louder and louder about who will be Indiana's new men's basketball coach. Indiana, at the end of the season, fired coach Tom Crean. That came a little over a week ago and it's been hush-hush ever since. A school like Indiana with its rich basketball tradition would have a number of candidates lined up by now. It's very quiet in Bloomington.

Why so quiet? Perhaps they already have Alford lined up. Alford is still in the NCAA Tournament with UCLA. The 31-4 Bruins battle Kentucky tonight. You can bet this topic will come up numerous times during the broadcast.

Alford was on the hot seat at UCLA last season. What helped keep his job was the highly touted recruits that were coming in. Wow, did they make a difference! The Bruins will reach the Elite 8 with a victory tonight.

Other reasons why Alford won't be back at UCLA:

  • Alford's son Bryce is a senior and obviously wouldn't be part of the future.
  • Traffic is a lot better in Bloomington than it is in Los Angeles and so is the air quality. Ok, maybe that's a bit of a stretch, but who knows.
  • Indiana would welcome Steve back to a packed arena. UCLA doesn't pack the arena like Indiana does.

Hawk fans, don't be surprised to see Steve Alford named as Indiana's new head man soon. Are you ready to see him again?
