The loss of a child is one that no one should have to experience. Especially when that loss comes on Christmas Day.

According to Voice of Muscatine, Heidi and Andy Summitt unexpectedly lost their 15-year-old daughter Cameron on Christmas morning. She was a sophomore at Muscatine High School. The Summit family is a big part of the community as Heidi is a Kindergarten teacher at Jefferson School  and Andy has been with the Muscatine Fire Department for the last 20 years. The Department posted their thoughts on their Facebook page.

It's sad to see someone gone so young, and to see a family grieve that young life. Now all that the Summit family can do is remember Cameron. According to the GoFundMe page set up for the family, Cameron was a beautiful person inside and out who had a smile that would light up any room. The post states that she was looking ahead to her future and working to "have most of her two-year degree done by the time she graduated high school." The GoFundMe page has a goal of $45,000. As of 1:20 p.m. on December 27, $43,010 has been raised.

We will continue to follow the story and provide more information as it becomes available. Our hearts go out to the Summitt family during this difficult time.

More sad news as this was not the only life lost in the area on Christmas day. A 76-year-old man on a bicycle was struck and killed on a rural Linn County road. That incident is still under investigation.
