It's supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year. But unfortunately, the time of the year doesn't stop tragedy from striking.

Around 2:30 p.m. on Christmas Day, tragedy struck in rural Linn County. According to a KCRG report, deputies from Linn and Benton County, the Iowa State Patrol, Fairfax Fire, and Area Ambulance responded to an accident in front of 11609 Linn Benton Road. The accident involved a 2017 silver Escape driving northbound on Little Benton Road when it collided with a man on a bicycle also traveling northbound.

The man driving the bicycle has been identified as 76-year-old Terry Zabortsky of Walford. Zabortsky was pronounced dead on the scene. We don't have all of the answers yet, as the accident still remains under investigation. We'll keep you updated as more information becomes available.

This kind of story is sad any time of the year, but it's especially hard around Christmas time when everyone's supposed to be spending time with loved ones. Thankfully, there's a lot of good out there as well. Like the story of a 12-year-old boy from Clear Lake who found $100 on the ground on his way home from school and used it to buy gifts for kids in need. That'll warm your heart.
