Once a year, the Great Jones County Fair racetrack roars to life during the late morning/early afternoon Saturday Special. A lot of hard work by Guss Hughes and the entire Hughes family and friends paid off as the racing was the best it’s been in a long time.

Mark Schulte, from Dehli, took home the win in the IMCA Modified division. The win was Schulte’s 3rd Great Jones County Fair win of his career. Schulte passed Cedar Rapids driver Patrick Flannigan with four laps left to go after a lap 8 caution. Flannigan had held the lead from the drop of the green flag. JD Auringer passed Flannigan late in the race to take home 2nd with Flannigan settling for 3rd. Troy Cordes and Zach Less rounded out the Top 5.

The IMCA Stock Car division had a great battle between Greg Gill and Cedar Rapid’s Johnny Spaw. The race saw four and five-wide racing heading into turn one. The race eventually became a two car battle between Gill and Spaw. Gill kept his car low and wide and was able to hold off Spaw for the win. Spaw settled for 2nd with Scooter Dulin 3rd, Chris Hinrichs 4th, and Buck Swanson 5th.

The 2-Man Cruiser division saw the team of Corey Rupp & Korey Davis make a last lap pass for the win in turn three and four. Mike Hansmeier & Jeremy Rogers came home 2nd, Kerry Davis & Brandon Ehrishman 3rd, Reece Norton & Shane Norton 4th, Travis Hanson & Jake Harms rounded out the top 5.
