A New Market Has Moved Into the Former Jeff Jones Furniture in Cedar Rapids

Cedar Rapids has a few new international markets, and one of them is coming soon to the Downtown area!

According to the official website, S. International Market is an Asian market that first opened in Waterloo at 822 La Porte Rd. Their mission is "to provide authentic international foods and products to our local community." Products include fresh produce, spices & seasonings, beverages, snacks, fresh & frozen meat, beauty supplies, and more.

Signage for a new S. International Market went up earlier this year at 803 3rd Ave SE in Downtown Cedar Rapids, the former home of Jeff Jones Furniture. The furniture store officially closed in 2023 after owner Jeff Jones decided to retire from the business, and the building has sat empty ever since.

S. International Market announced their new Cedar Rapids location on their website on March 4th, writing:

"...our new location will offer the same quality products and exceptional service you’ve come to love at our other stores. From international groceries to specialty items, we’re bringing the flavors of the world right to your neighborhood."

We don't know exactly when S. International Market plans to open its doors to the community, but the website says to "keep an eye out for more details on our official opening date and special launch events." You can check the blog on their website for the latest information HERE.

According to the Cedar Rapids Gazette, S. International Market isn't the only new market opening in Cedar Rapids! Hornbill Asian Market is coming to 1556 1st Ave NE. The latest Facebook update from the business says that, due to circumstances beyond their control, their opening will take much longer than they anticipated.

On the other hand, a new market by the name of Afghan Global Market has just opened in Cedar Rapids! The Gazette reports that the business offers "a wide selection of food and products from Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Somalia, Turkey and other countries across Africa and the Middle East." Afghan Global Market officially began welcoming customers on March 24th at 20 Miller Ave SW.
