TrekFest is back to beam you up this weekend in Riverside Iowa.

Ever since Riverside, Iowa was named as the (future) birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk of the Starship Enterprise, the tiny town has glowed in the geeky spotlight of fans from around the world.

This weekend is the 35-year anniversary of the festival called TrekFestfeaturing guests and events that pay homage to those nerdy faithful who have followed the show for decades.

This year's theme is "Aliens of Star Trek" and features actress and stunt woman Sandra Gimple, who played the Salt Monster and a Talosian in the original Star Trek TV series. She will sign autographs and talk to fans 7-8 p.m., Friday, June 28, preceding the Star Trek Trivia Contest at 8 p.m. in Hall Park.

On Saturday, June 29, Ms. Gimpel will appear in the TrekFest Parade at 10 a.m., judge the Costume Contest at 11 a.m. and give a talk about her experiences at 2:30 p.m.

If you are a fan of the sci-fi series, chances are you will truly enjoy the weekend activities, which include a 5k Run/Walk and softball tourney.

You can get the complete TrekFest list of events at TrekFest.org.
