A Second Restaurant is Set to Open This Month in the Former Chrome Horse in Cedar Rapids

The transformation of the former Chrome Horse Saloon in Cedar Rapids into two new restaurants is almost complete! First came Mercury Diner & Drinks, and next up is Rhapsody Spirits & Provisions!

Back in October of 2025, a new business called Odd Mama's Vintage Cafe opened its doors in the former Chrome Horse Saloon in the NewBo District of Cedar Rapids. Just a couple of months later, the cafe began going by a different name: Mercury Diner & Drinks. The reason for the name change was simply because of a change in ownership. One partner decided not to move forward, and that partner owned the Odd Mama's name. The restaurant rebranded and changed up its menu, and it's been going by Mercury Diner & Drinks ever since!

In late January of this year, Mercury Diner & Drinks underwent another pretty big change. While it started out as a cafe for breakfast and lunch, the hours were extended to include dinner, which also meant new menu additions. The restaurant is now open daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. You can check out the full menu below:

About Rhapsody Spirits & Provisions

If you ever visited Chrome Horse when it was open, then you know that the building is pretty big. Mercury Diner & Drinks is located inside the main dining room, but that left another portion of the building empty, including the attached covered patio that Chrome Horse was known for. That's where Rhapsody Spirits & Provisions comes into the picture.

Since we first learned about Odd Mama's Vintage Cafe/Mercury Diner & Drinks opening in 2025, we knew that another restaurant called Rhapsody was set to open inside the same building, but at a later date. That later date is finally almost here!

According to the official Facebook page, Rhapsody Spirits & Provisions will offer "a laid back, eclectic atmosphere with elevated, fun eats, tuned to your taste." They actually gave customers a sneak peek of the new venue during a live music event on June 6th. The patio party was the first of many live shows that the restaurant hopes to host this summer. The owner of Rhapsody told me that they are currently working to get more entertainment booked in the coming months.

As of right now, we don't have an official opening date for Rhapsody Spirits & Provisions, but the owner assured me that its coming later this month! For the latest updates, you can follow the restaurant's Facebook page HERE.
