A Recently-Opened Cedar Rapids Cafe Has Changed Its Name

Only a few months since opening, a unique restaurant in Cedar Rapids has made a pretty big change! In early December, Odd Mama's Vintage Cafe officially became Mercury Diner & Drinks.

In early October of this year, a new breakfast and lunch restaurant called Odd Mama's Vintage Cafe opened its doors in the former Chrome Horse Saloon building in Cedar Rapids' NewBo District. It's located in the main dining room of the building, which was totally remodeled to give it a new look. I visited shortly after the October opening and I loved what they did with the space!

Mercury Diner & Drinks

Back on December 4th, Odd Mama's Vintage Cafe surprised customers when they changed the name on their Facebook page to Mercury Diner & Drinks. The name change comes with a new logo and a few changes and additions to the menu, which you can view below. They even have a build-your-own bloody Mary bar!

According to a post in the Cedar Rapids Area Support Local Group on Facebook, Mercury Diner & Drinks changed its name for a fairly simple reason. User Tammy Bayer wrote:

"Ownership was adjusted slightly; one partner not going forward. She was the one with the Odd Mamas name, so the remaining owner chose a new name."

The official Facebook page for Mercury Diner & Drinks confirmed Tammy's comment, writing back:

"What Tammy said! Same chef. Same GM and staff. Just a name change."

Holiday Hours

Mercury Diner & Drinks will be open for normal business hours on New Year’s Eve (7 a.m. to 3 p.m.), but after a brief afternoon closure, they will open for a special New Year's Eve dinner. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., diners can enjoy a few appetizers and entrées that aren't on the regular menu. That includes smoked prime rib, shepherd's pie, Cajun shrimp alfredo, burrata, and more.
