Intern Reagan’s Trip to Spain [GALLERY]
Hello everyone!
I am Intern Reagan Schneiter from Monticello, Iowa and I have been joining Brain and Courtlin in the morning on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I recently went to Spain for vacation and would love to share my experience!
I traveled to Spain for the wedding of my cousin, while also traveling to different cities and viewing tourist attractions. We began our trip in Madrid, Spain where we were able to go to the Royal Palace and learn information about the royal family of Spain. Valencia, Spain was the next stop where I had amazing homemade pizza and went to the Cathedral that contains a piece of the Holy Grail from the bible. Our last destination in Spain was in Altea. Altea was a gorgeous city and beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea.
Weddings across the country are often times different than here in the States. Dinner began around 10 pm and reception was 1-4 am. Many activities in Europe start in the early afternoon and run late into the early morning of the following day. Some other interesting facts about Spain are how environmentally friendly they are while using wooden utensils, and paper straws, and making wooden playgrounds instead of using plastic.
Spanish Bullfighting is a popular cultural ritual that occurs every Sunday in Madrid. In Spain, the matador fights the chosen bull which is viewed as both art and entertainment. Not only is bullfighting popular for Spaniards, but attracts large amounts of tourists as well. Real Madrid, the professional soccer (Fútbol) team in Spain recently won the Champions League which is similar to the Super Bowl for American Football. While in Madrid, I got to experience the celebration of the champions and attend the parade which was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Traveling around to other countries it is always exciting to try unique foods to that culture. During my time in Spain, I enjoyed some wonderful dishes including ribs, lemon sorbet, goat cheese salad, pizza, and easily the best cheeseburger I have ever had. Being right on the ocean made for wonderful seafood and allowed me to try octopus for the first time!
Spain was such a beautiful country and I am so grateful for the experience!
