'Tis the season for lots of home deliveries and Hiawatha police are once again are asking residents if they would be interested in volunteering their porches for a holiday sting operation.

The police arrange for "decoy packages" to be left on residents' porches, in an effort to stop porch pirates in their tracks. The packages contain GPS devices that help police track down the thieves.

Very clever idea, you say. And it sure seems to be working.

Since reporting this story on Wednesday, November 21, KCRG says Hiawatha police say there have been no porch pirates stealing packages - which is a 100% success.

Criminals may be dumb, but they're not always stupid.
