One of Cedar Rapids' favorite neighborhood diners is ending its long run.

A surprising post on their Facebook page announced recently that the owners of Willy Woodburn's Cafe in Cedar Rapids will be closing their doors, with this Easter Sunday, April 16 being their last day in business.

They chose to relocate from Ellis Blvd. NW to 16th Ave. SW after the flood of 2008, into a spot that itself was displaced and shuttered by that flood, the old Susie's Cafe.

I visited Willy's many times. It was owned and operated by the parents of a former co-worker and I always enjoyed the food and service. We will all be sad to see them go. Bill (Willy) Woodburn and his wife, Linda are retiring and it's a well-deserved chance for them to relax after many years of hard work and dedicated customer service in this community.

Stop by and see them before they shut down on Sunday. You can see their full announcement about the closure on the Willy Woodburn's Cafe website.

We thank them for so many great years and memories.
