Police Remind Door-to-Door Solicitors that They Need a License
If somebody shows up at your front door to sell you something, there are some precautions you can take to make sure you aren't scammed.
It seems like more and more people on my Facebook newsfeed are posting about shady people showing up at their home trying to sell them various products and services. It's the middle of summer, which means it's the prime season for door-to-door solicitors, but that doesn't mean all of them are legit.
According to CBS 2, police are reminding solicitors that they need to obtain a license in order to sell anything door-to-door. To do that, visit the city clerk's website and fill out the application and the background check. You will receive a laminated license that will have your name, the company name, and details about your appearance.
Homeowners, you do NOT have to answer your door, answer questions, or let anyone into your house. You also have every right to ask to see the license prior to doing business. Use your personal judgement when it comes to this sort of thing. Nobody likes getting scammed, and it can be hard for police to track down a person who uses a fake name and business.
