If you're looking to do a little ice skating this winter, North Liberty is the place to go!

According to the Beat the Bitter winter festival website, Scheels Ice Rink has opened for the season at Penn Meadows Park in North Liberty. The outdoor rink is 100-feet by 80-feet and is installed on top of the tennis courts.

As long as the weather conditions are favorable, Scheels Ice Rink is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and all ages are welcome. The best part is that it's FREE!

For folks who don't have their own skates to bring, the North Liberty Recreation Center has a variety of kids and adult sizes in hockey and figure skates that are available to rent with a credit or debit card. As long as you bring them back within two hours or before close (whichever comes first), there is no charge. But, if they are not returned, your card will be charged $50 per pair the next day. You must be at least 16-years-old to check out skates, and one person can check out up to four pairs.

Because Scheels Ice Rink is not supervised, there are some rules in place for skaters. Children ages ten and under must be accompanied by an adult, headphones and food/beverages are not permitted on the ice, and helmets are recommended. For hockey players, "pucks are allowed on the ice weekdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for kids and parents, and 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. for adults." You can check out all the rink's guidelines HERE.

North Liberty's annual Beat the Bitter festival is set to return later this month! You can see a full list of events HERE.
