There are few legends in basketball bigger than Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The winner of multiple NCAA titles and NBA Championships is coming to Iowa City later this month.

Abdul-Jabbar will speak at Hancher Auditorium at the University of Iowa on March 25th. The event will feature the legend speaking about his decades of work in activism for African Americans and Muslims. He'll also speak about others who have used sports as a launching pad for social activism.

Abdul-Jabbar played for the Milwaukee Bucks from 1969 to 1975, and then for the 'Showtime' L.A. Lakers until 1989. Some of my earliest memories of watching basketball were of Magic and Kareem leading the Lakers, and of course, that unstoppable sky hook! Since his retirement, Abul-Jabbar has focused on social activism and writing. He's written 11 books to date.

The event at Hancher is free and no ticket is needed. Doors open at 2:30 p.m and seating is on a first come first serve basis.
