Wanna watch a bridge get blown up? I guess the official term for the event is a bridge implosion, but no matter what you call it, the bridge over the Mississippi River at Lansing is coming down this week!

New Date for Lansing Bridge Demolition

CBS2 reports that the implosion of the Mississippi River bridge at Lansing has been rescheduled. It will now happen on Friday, December 19th, with December 20th as the backup date, according to the Iowa and Wisconsin Departments of Transportation.

When Will the Big Blast Happen?

The big bang, so to speak, will happen at around 9:30 a.m. on December 19th, depending on weather and other conditions, according to CBS2. Warning horns will sound five minutes before the blast, and again at one minute before the implosion. A second, smaller blast at the east end of the bridge is planned for later in the day.

How Can I Watch the Bridge Come Down?

As cool as it would be to see the implosion in person, it is being discouraged by officials. CBS2 reports police are expecting crowds and are working with the Lansing Police, the Iowa State Patrol, and other officials to enforce safety protocols.

The safer way to watch is to tune into the livestream being provided by the Iowa Department of Transportation. CBS2 reports that you'll be able to watch video of the implosion at iowadot.gov/lansingbridge.

The new bridge crossing the Mississippi River is expected to open in 2027.
