By the time I turned 18, I had done CPR more times than I'd care to mention.  There was an apartment complex near our fire station that had weekly shootings, stabbings, or some other troubles, and we would roll in, get our patient stabilized, and quickly exit. Crystal Rock Drive has come a long way since then.  Shockingly, when our medic unit did take random gunfire, it wasn't there.

The calls were dispatched as one shot or stabbed, and you never really knew what you would find until you arrived.  It's much different when the call goes out and you know what you're in for, for the most part.

The calls that indicate you need life-saving measures immediately always make your hair stand on end. You're running through scenarios and what you'll need to do as soon as you arrive, often while trying to make it safely to the scene with lights and sirens.

The training for a "working code" (which means CPR is in progress), like in this situation where people are injured or missing after a boat capsized, can be intense. I remember the underwater didactic, and it's training you hope you never have to put to use.

The Iowa DNR News Release

The Iowa DNR news release stated an investigation is currently underway following a tragic boating accident on the Mississippi River in Northeast Iowa, which claimed the lives of three men. The Department of Natural Resources reports that the victims were fishing near Bellevue, in a restricted area beneath Lock and Dam No. 12.

The boat they were in became caught in a powerful backflow current, causing it to capsize. The men who lost their lives in the accident have been identified as Mitchell Thomson, 30, from Stanwood, IA; Nicholas Thompson, 40, from Tipton, IA; and Kirk Stout, 61, from Marion.

Now, for your viewing pleasure.  Hopefully, it is true that watching a beaver munch on cabbage reduces stress levels.  Have a great day and be safe!
