U.S News and World Report has released it's annual study of the healthiest counties in the nation. Several Eastern Iowa Counties made the top 500 including Linn County. Counties are measured in several different categories including smoking and obesity rates as well as infrastructure and recreation spaces.

The report looked at over 3,000 counties in those 10 categories and came up with their final rankings. The healthiest county in the nation, in case you're curious, is Douglas County, Colorado, which includes a suburb of Denver. Iowa had a very strong presence on the list with 62 counties featured in the top 500.

Topping the list for Iowa was Bremer County at #26 on the list. Eastern Iowa counties that fared well included Iowa County at #164, Benton County at #170, Buchanan County at #306, and Linn County at #410. Among all states, Iowa ranked third in high school graduation rate, 4th for commute times, and 5th for low rates of death due to suicide, drug and alcohol abuse.
