Have you ever heard of the Hinterland Music Festival? Because until about five minutes ago, we never had.

The Hinterland Music Festival is a big event happening August 2nd through 4th in Saint Charles, Iowa, which is about a 2 hour and 20-minute drive from Cedar Rapids. It's been going on since 2015, which is why we were surprised that we weren't aware of it. According to Wikipedia, Willie Nelson, Dwight Yoakam, Gary Clark Jr., and Sturgill Simpson are just a few of the recognizable names that have played the festival in the past.

This year's lineup looks to be their best yet, with three days of live music instead of the usual two. And there are some great country acts scheduled! The one and only Kacey Musgraves will be playing on Friday, August 2nd along with indie rock singer Hozier (best known for his hit "Take Me to Church"). On Saturday, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit will be headlining. He played a sold-out show at the Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids back in January of 2018. And then on Sunday, Brandi Carlile and Maggie Rodgers (one of my absolute FAVORITE new artists) will be taking the stage. Kacey Musgraves' husband Ruston Kelly, who opened up for Brothers Osborne in Dubuque earlier this year, is also set to perform.

Tickets to the festival are actually pretty affordable, with a one-day pass costing $59 and a 3-day pass costing $135. You can get more information on those HERE.

Here are a few songs from the featured artists that I really enjoy, just in case you're not familiar:
