Elton John Awed By Iowa Marching Band’s Historic Performance

Elton John has been traveling all across the globe for his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour this past year. John has performed at some of the biggest music venues all over, but one place you never thought he'd spend too much time in is in the Midwest.

On October 22nd, 2022, the Ohio State University Marching Band and the Hawkeye Marching Band teamed up for a historic performance. It's the second time in Ohio State history that their incredible marching band performed a field show with another collegiate band, according to WTOL.

First things first, collegiate marching band students are some of the hardest working people on the planet. They spend a whole lot of time memorizing sheets and sheets of music, learning complicated drills, and figuring out how to do both of those things at the same time. To make it even crazier, once they perform at a football game they usually have to go in the next week and learn a COMPLETELY new show.

The Iowa and Ohio band collaborated at the Ohio State home game on a tribute to one of the greatest musicians of all time: Elton John.

In honor of John's 50 year long career, the bands performed "A Tribute to Elton John."

During this 10 minute and 53 second performance the college students played some of the star's biggest hits.

The songs in the order they were performed are as follows; “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”, “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting” ,“Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” ,“Crocodile Rock” ,“Tiny Dancer” ,“Rocket Man”, and “I’m Still Standing.”

And the legend himself even got to see the performance...at least online. The six-time Grammy award winner came across the video of the marching bands routine and seemed to be all about it!

Elton John shared it across his social media channels on Monday, October 21st. He thanked the musicians for the work they put into it, and even said.

"What an incredible dedication with so much creativity!"

And of course, Mr. Rocketman himself had to include a little rocket emoji.
