Caitlin Clark Lights Up 2024 ESPYS Despite Absence
2024 is the year of Caitlin Clark.
The West Des Moines native turned college hoops star turned WNBA rookie has been front of mind for many sports fans this year.
Clark helped lead the Iowa women's basketball team to the NCAA championship, broke records, and was selected first overall in the WNBA draft this season.
Now, as a pro for the Indiana Fever, she continues to be getting love not only from her fans, but from awards shows.
ESPYS 2024
On Thursday, July 11th the 2024 ESPYs (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly) celebrated some of the biggest and brightest stars in the world of athletics. Tennis superstar Serena Williams hosted the awards show for the very first time.
Other celebrities that were spotted at the show include Jennifer Garner, 'Abbott Elementary' star Quinta Brunson, and even Venus Williams.
While Caitlin Clark was not physically at the celebration, she was there in spirit and via video from Indianapolis where she accepted her awards.
She actually had the most nominations going into the ceremony.
What Awards Did Caitlin Clark Win at the ESPYS?
The former Iowa Hawkeye won two of the three awards she was nominated for: the ESPY Award for Best Female College Athlete and Best Record-Breaking Performance.
The latter recognized her achievement as the NCAA All-Time Scoring Leader, surpassing Pete Maravich.
Caitlin could not attend the awards show held in Los Angeles this time around, since she's in the middle of her rookie season playing for the WNBA.
