Cedar Falls Will Bring the Fright With Second Annual Spooktober

Even though it's technically summer for another 20+ days, it's never too early to start talking about Halloween!

My son will be 6 months, and we already have a Halloween costume picked out for him.

As residents of Cedar Falls, it was exciting to see that the city is bringing back Spooktober for 2025!

Spooktober Returning to Cedar Falls This October

Halloween in Cedar Falls is getting a festive boost with the return of Spooktober, a month-long celebration filled with activities, workshops, and community events throughout October.

The City of Cedar Falls, along with the Hearst Center for the Arts, the Cedar Falls Public Library, and the Cedar Falls Rec Center, will offer something for all ages.

Families can look forward to artistic workshops, film screenings, and entertainment for the kids.

Halloween House Decorating Contest

One of the highlights is the Mayor’s Halloween House Decorating Contest. Residents can enter their decorated homes between September 1 and September 28 at the Spooktober website.

Beginning October 1, the public can download a map of participating homes online or pick up a copy at City Hall (220 Clay Street) or the Cedar Falls Visitor Center (6510 Hudson Road).

Prizes will be awarded to the contest winners.

Cedar Falls Trick-or-Treating Hours for 2025

Halloween night will also feature Cedar Falls trick-or-treating on Friday, October 31, from 6 to 8 p.m.

To keep the holiday fun and safe, Cedar Falls Public Safety is reminding families of key safety tips.

Costumes should be bright, reflective, and flame-resistant, and children should carry flashlights or glow sticks while trick-or-treating.

Young children should always be accompanied by an adult, and families are encouraged to trick-or-treat only in familiar neighborhoods.

Drivers are asked to stay alert, slow down, and watch for pedestrians, while homeowners should remove tripping hazards from their yards and porches.
