The first weekend in October means that my hometown of Anamosa transforms itself into the pumpkin capital of the United States! Pumpkinfest 2018 is this weekend and there are awesome activities planned all weekend long!

If you've never been to Pumpkinfest before, you have to stop by the Lawrence Community Center for the Ryan Norlin Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off. Pumpkin growers from around Iowa and the midwest bring in their HUGE pumpkins and compete for cash prizes and bragging rights. Doors open at 8 a.m. and the awards ceremony is held at around noon. Pumpkins arrive steadily as the morning goes along.

The Pumpkinfest parade starts Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. and travels down main street in Anamosa. There are also tons of craft and food vendors up and down main street as well as kids games and an inflatable fun zone. Activities continue on Sunday including the always well-attended pancake breakfast at The Lawrence Center beginning at 8 a.m.

Pumpkinfest is one of my favorite fall festivals to attend each year. I hope to see you in Anamosa this weekend for all the fun!
