Recently, the ACLU challenged several Iowa counties that were processing mass voter challenges weeks before the November 5th election, which goes against state and federal law.

The ACLU sent a letter to all 99 Iowa counties asking the auditors to fix this issue. They’ve heard complaints from voters in certain counties who were tossed aside due to challenges from private citizens.

The ACLU believes there’s a push to challenge voters based on flimsy evidence, and it’s being fueled by political rhetoric that exaggerates the problem of voter fraud.

The ACLU and others are concerned that this could lead to unjust voter suppression and distrust in the electoral process.

Why Are Iowans Being Purged From Voter Rolls?

So, here’s the scoop from Iowa: it turns out that some voters were given the ol' heave-ho from the registration lists.

Iowa’s Secretary of State, Paul Pate, recently found out that county auditors were booting people off the rolls because of some last-minute challenges, which is a big no-no right before an election.

Apparently, there are rules against this sort of thing during the quiet period, it's kin to a time-out for voter removals.

Pate sent out a friendly reminder to all the county auditors, saying, not to pull voters off the list unless they've kicked the bucket or something equally serious! He’s now encouraging them to roll out the welcome mat again for those who were wrongly kicked off.

The ACLU is raising alarm bells about potential voter suppression and emphasizing the need for transparency and adherence to legal protections for voters.

In short, it’s a bit of a circus right now, but Pate says he is on the case, making sure everyone gets back on the list and can join the voting party come November 5!

The Heritage Foundation has a detailed description of each of the cases involving voter fraud that was prosecuted in Iowa.  They list 28 people, since 2011, prosecuted for various voter-related crimes.

Out of the millions of votes cast, it's a very low number which underscores the rarity of such occurrences and supports the view that voter fraud is not a widespread problem in Iowa.

November 5th is election day, get out and vote if you haven't already, it's your civic duty.  What is one of the most popular write-in votes for president every 4 years?
