Iowans Beware Potentially Disgusting Reason Butterball Turkeys Recalled!
(If you have a queasy stomach, this might make you hurl. Not my words, those are disgusting in general just the topic is kinky icky) Mmmm, mmmm. Just in time for Thanksgiving, it's a turkey recall, kind of, gobble, gobble.
Things DO Happen
Look things happen, machinery malfunctions, and metal shards get in your food item. Happens. Hopefully, you don't eat it and they fix it and we move on.
Things do happen. Mixtures get mixed up and bottled, and then you get it, and wow, that's not right. I bet there's a manufacturer right now getting their items ready for sale, and little do they know, it'll be coming back soon because of an error.
We know things can go wrong, like when you go to slaughter your turkeys and the person doing the slaughtering has relations with the turkey right before, it happens. Wait........ what?! Remember earlier when I said the topic was icky, well, here 'tis
The Gory Details
The allegation, from a 2006 investigation, has sparked outrage against the poultry brand Butterball days before Thanksgiving. In the video, the person says they were undercover when they saw workers sexually assaulting the birds before slaughtering them.
The investigator then reveals details, claiming employees humped shackled turkeys and inserted fingers into the birds' cloacas. The investigation includes a video (I chose not to include it) It's not pretty but trust me if you're looking for it, it's out there.
If a company does wrong, they should be held accountable, this video and undercover work, according to PETA was done in 2006. Should the outrage we show have a shelf life? If they've been held to account and made appropriate changes to keep this kind of thing from happening again, then it seems misplaced.
That said, if they've turned a blind eye and the birds could still be treated this way, then maybe they deserve a little poke just days before the turkeys' big moment in the spotlight, center table.
I don't appreciate the animals we consume being treated in a way that is not humane. They will be giving themselves so we can sustain our way of life. At least let them live life with dignity, that's what we strive for.
Plus, some of them are quite smart, like pigs and cows. Both are smarter than the average dog and we think they're awesome. Even turkeys have a little smarts going on.
The Butterball hotline
If you need help with your turkey, Butterball has a hotline for that. Understand that is mainly for prepping the bird and for cooking. I don't think they'll have much more info on the aforementioned turkeys.
Where you fall on this issue, I don't know but we can agree on one thing. Stuffing ourselves beyond belief and having a Happy Thanksgiving, Pilgrim.
