Iowa Mom Charged With Drugging Kids So They’d Sleep During Day
An Iowa mom has had all three of her children taken away after Des Moines police say she was drugging them so they'd sleep during the day.
35-year-old Morgan Brown-Edmundson was arrested Sunday after her 8-year-old son was found near the family home in the 3800 block of East 27th St. Sunday afternoon. He had reportedly been out in the heat for hours.
Police were called after the boy told the people that found him that he couldn't wake up his mom. Des Moines police found the woman passed out in the family home, and two other children also asleep.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by WHO, the boy “appeared to be extremely lethargic and in a state of physical distress from the heat.” The complaint went on to say that the boy told Des Moines police it wasn't unusual for his mom to give all three of the kids both sleeping pills and other medicine so they would sleep during the daytime.
After all four were taken for treatment, hospital security found open containers of alcoholic beverages in Brown-Edmundson's purse. When asked how much she had drank (Sunday), she reportedly told police, “... more than enough and over the limit." She was released from jail this morning.
