Iowa is One of the Better States to Have a Baby
If you're a pregnant woman living in Iowa, I have some good news for you!
WalletHub's most recent study determined '2019's Best & Worst States to Have a Baby,' and I'm happy to report that Iowa did pretty well! Before we get to that, though, we need to know how the site determined their rankings. The article states:
"WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 30 key measures of cost, health care accessibility, as well as baby- and family-friendliness. Our data set ranges from hospital conventional-delivery charges to annual average infant-care costs to pediatricians per capita."
Overall, we came in at number 16 on the list. To break it down a little further, we ranked 19th for 'cost,' 17th for 'health care,' 15th for 'family-friendliness,' and 28th for 'baby-friendliness.' I'm not sure why we did poorly in that last category, but at least we did ok in the rest of them!
According to the report, the top three states to have a baby are Vermont, Massachusetts, and North Dakota. The bottom three states are Mississippi, Alabama, and South Carolina.
