Former Hawkeye Owen Freeman Commits to Midwest School
Former Iowa Hawkeye big man Owen Freeman has emerged from the transfer portal and committed to a new school.
Hawk Fanatic reports that Freeman has chosen to play next season at Creighton. The news was first reported by Joe Tipton with On3. Freeman was the first Hawkeye to announce he was entering the transfer portal after the University of Iowa cut ties with former head coach Fran McCaffery. Freeman was one of the most sought-after recruits in the portal. Hawk Fanatic reports he led Iowa in scoring, rebound, and blocks despite his season being cut short by a finger injury that required surgery.
Freeman, who was named co-Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2024, was one of seven Iowa players who entered the transfer portal following the firing of McCaffery. The Hawkeyes introduced new head coach Ben McCollum on Tuesday. During his welcoming press conference, the new Hawkeye head coach stated that he would be talking to some of those Iowa players who entered the portal.
Players that McCollum mentioned specifically included Josh Dix and Pryce Sandfort. Hawk Fanatic reports that Dix is also being pursued by Creighton and that Sandfort has met with coaches at Nebraska. Meanwhile, former Iowa point guard Brock Harding has narrowed his choices down to TCU, Louisville, and Washington according to Hawk Fanatic.
Players that enter the transfer portal can return to Iowa as long as they don't sign with another school.
