Could ESPN College GameDay make a return to Iowa City this season? Kirk Herbstreit, one of the program's hosts, believes it could happen as soon as next week!

When Was GameDay Last In Iowa City?

SI.com reports that ESPN's College GameDay has featured numerous games involving the Iowa Hawkeyes, including several Cy-Hawk games and the 2015 Big Ten Championship. But the last time the show visited Iowa City was September 30, 2006. Yes, twenty years ago! That year, #13 Iowa hosted #1 Ohio State. The Buckeyes ended up winning 38-17.

What Needs To Happen For College GameDay to Come Back?

The Hawkeyes have started the season 3-0 and find themselves ranked #17 in the latest college football poll. But to have a shot at hosting ESPN College GameDay, Iowa will need to beat #18 Michigan on the road this Saturday, according to SI. Host Kirk Herbstreit confirmed that "Week 5 is in play." Even then, the SEC still has some matchups that could lure GameDay away from Iowa City, including a battle between Georgia and a potentially unbeaten Vanderbilt team.

Where Has College GameDay Been This Season?

So far this season, ESPN's College GameDay has been exclusively in the South.
