Don't forget. Donations to help people recovering from the August 10 derecho are still very much in need.

The Iowa Derecho Resource Center's current location has been near the former McGrath Ford dealership at 4001 1st Ave. SE. The group looks to move again within a few weeks but the real story is, they have applied to be granted status as an official nonprofit organization. It would be known as "Together We Rise" and the new home has yet to be determined.

The group is in its third location, where they've been operating rent-free. They know that's probably eventually going to change when they move somewhere more permanent, but they're hoping for a break to help them continue serving the community. Owners of the current location plan to tear it down, and there's no timetable, so the hope is to find a new place fast. Official status as a nonprofit would give them a centralized location and the ability to provide even more resources to the community, according to Raymond Siddell, organizer of the Iowa Derecho Resource Center group, who talked to KWWL.

Whatever format they operate in and in whatever location, the group reminds the public they are still available, providing needs, collecting donations, and soliciting volunteers.

You can sign up to be one of those volunteers here. By the way, they're also looking for leads on a property to move into. Send any potential landing spots their way by email at office@togetherweachieve.org or call (319)432-9754 to offer or receive help or resources.
