Cedar Rapids Restaurant Will Soon Open a Location in Iowa City
When business is good, you just keep growing. That's definitely the case for a fast-expanding series of restaurants that opened its first location in Cedar Rapids in March of 2019. Two additional locations have started to greet customers since then and two more are on the way.
On Wednesday, Taco Depot announced they will soon open a new restaurant just a couple doors down from the Target in downtown Iowa City. The newest will be located at 119 E Washington Street, in a location previously occupied by Tiki Tacos.
Ally Ramirez, one of Taco Depot's owners, tells me the location could open in May, "because it was pretty much ready to go. All we have to do is paint and build booths and tables."
Taco Depot currently has locations on Edgewood Parkway SW, 1st Avenue SE, and Miller Avenue SW in Cedar Rapids. If you're wondering about the first Taco Depot location that was announced for outside Cedar Rapids, in Marion, that's still happening.
The Marion location for Taco Depot, along Highway 13, north of the Highway 151 interchange was first revealed in December of 2022. It will be on the west side of Highway 13, south of Culver's. The building has to be constructed, hence the delay.
Earlier today, Ally Ramirez told me she and co-owner Jimmy Ramirez (her husband) are "getting the drive-thru approved with the city and trying to come up with the most functional floor plan." When you build it, you want to make it perfect, and that usually takes a little longer. Ramirez says once the Iowa City location opens the Marion location will be their focus.
It's been a fast, and successful expansion for Taco Depot, with their 4th corridor location serving tacos and more opening soon. The first store on the corridor's south end, it will also be a success if customers continue to be delighted as they have by the Cedar Rapids locations. When you combine the nearly 900 Google reviews for the first three Taco Depot restaurants, the average score is 4.34 stars.
