
Iowa Restaurant Closing Just One Year After Winning Best Burger
The restaurant industry isn't for the faint of heart. One year you can be winning awards, and the next thing you know, you're closing your doors.
The Des Moines Register reports that a restaurant that earned the Iowa Beef Industry Council's Best Burger Award in 2024 is closing after just over a year in business.
Which Restaurant Won Best Burger in 2024?
JJ's Tavern and Grill opened in November 2023 in Ankeny and, the following May, won the Best Burger contest in the state of Iowa, according to the Register. JJ's Tavern served smash burgers, including one named after 49er quarterback and former Cyclone Brock Purdy. The Brock Curdy Burger was topped with BBQ sauce, ranch, cheese curds, pulled pork, and bacon. JJ's Tavern was one of over 500 restaurants that were nominated for best burger in 2024.
Why Did JJ's Tavern and Grill Close?
JJ's Tavern and Grill announced on Facebook that they would be closing their doors for good.
The post states that "after much thought and heartfelt reflection, we’ve made the difficult decision to close the doors of JJ’s Tavern + Grill." They also thanked their loyal customers and the dedication of the JJ's staff.
