Three basketball players from the University of Iowa have been named to several prestigious watch lists.

The Wooden Award

The John R. Wooden Award is one of the highest honors you can receive in college basketball. Each year, the Wooden Award is handed out to the best player in men's and women's college basketball. The award is named after legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden.

Three Iowa Hawkeye Players on Wooden Watch Lists

CBS2 reports that three Iowa Hawkeye basketball players are on the Wooden Award watch lists to start the season.

Senior guard Bennett Stirtz has been named to the John R. Wooden Men's Preseason Top 50 Watch List. Stirtz is already on several different preseason watch lists and is a preseason All-American. CBS2 reports that Stirtz is one of 12 Big Ten players on the Wooden Watch List.


 

For the Iowa women, two players have made the Wooden Award Women's Top 50 Watch List. Senior forward Hannah Stuelke is a preseason first-team All-Big Ten selection. She is joined by freshman guard Addie Deal. CBS2 reports that Deal was one of the top recruits in the nation and is already averaging 6 point 4 assists per game for Iowa.


The Iowa men's and women's basketball teams are both back in action on Thursday, November 20th. The Iowa men host Chicago State at Carver Hawkeye Arena.

The Iowa women will play #7 Baylor in the WBCA Showcase in Orlando.
