After taking over at the University of Iowa, new men's basketball coach Ben McCollum did a masterful job of overhauling the roster. Several players from Drake followed McCollum from Des Moines to Iowa City, including All-American point guard Bennet Stirtz. But McCollum isn't just thinking about this season. His latest win also has an eye on the future.

Hawkeyes Land Top Recruit from the West Coast

The Daily Iowan reports that Iowa has earned a commitment from four-star forward Ethan Harris. He becomes the first recruit for Ben McCollum in the class of 2026.


The Daily Iowan reports that Harris told 24/7 Sports that he chose Iowa "for the culture and what type of basketball player they will make me."

Harris Also Had Offers from Big In-State Schools

The Daily Iowan reports that Harris hails from Camas, Washington, and had also received offers from the University of Washington and basketball powerhouse Gonzaga. But in the end, Harris decided to leave the Pacific Northwest and head to the Midwest. During his junior year, Harris averaged 16.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, and three assists per game.

Where Will Harris Fit in at Iowa?

The Daily Iowan reports that Harris knows nothing is guaranteed, stating that "coming in as a freshman, I don't expect anything." He stated that he plans to work hard and play any role necessary. Sounds like a Ben McCollum player already.
