A New Bar & Restaurant is Opening in a Historic Czech Village Bakery
During Cedar Rapids' Houby Days Festival in the Czech Village this weekend, attendees were given a sneak peek look inside of a brand new bar & restaurant! An article from Homegrown Iowan reveals that Horseshoe & Hide is set to open soon at 73 16th Ave SW.
About Horseshoe & Hide
Horseshoe & Hide is located in the former Sykora Bakery in Cedar Rapids' Czech Village, which was built way back in the year 1900. It shares the building with another new business called LoKey Hat Co., which opened in November of 2025. According to the Homegrown Iowan, Candy and Kory Nanke are the owners of the historic building, as well as both of its new businesses. Sykora Bakery closed its doors and was sold to the Nankes in 2023.
The article from Homegrown Iowan says that Horseshoe & Hide is described as "an upscale saloon where excellent food and bourbon pair together,” and features a whiskey & bourbon bar, "higher end dining," and outdoor patio seating. You can check out some photos of the interior from Homegrown Iowa's article HERE.
The Sneak Peek
On May 15th, Horseshoe & Hide celebrated Houby Days with a first look inside the new bar & restaurant. They opened up at 3 p.m. with "a limited menu of cocktails and a few delicious food specials." It doesn't appear that Horseshoe & Hide is open for regular business hours just yet, but you can check the official Facebook page for the latest updates HERE.
