Helicopter Crashes At Independence Airport

The crash of an aircraft at the Buchanan County Airport on Tuesday afternoon has left one person injured.

KCRG reports that at around 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, the Independence Fire Department and other first responders were sent to the Independence Municipal Airport due to reports of an aircraft crashing. Upon arrival, crews found a damaged helicopter as well as damage to a nearby hangar.

According to emergency officials, one person was taken to the hospital due to injuries suffered in the accident. Their identity and condition are not being released at this hour. Independence police and ambulance service were also involved in the response to the accident.

Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration will also be joining the investigation to help find a cause of the crash.
