Iowa City is back to just one Hamburg Inn No. 2 after a newer, east side location closed over the weekend.

The second location of the iconic Iowa City diner opened at 2221 Rochester Avenue in late August of 2017, according to the Iowa City Press-Citizen. It closed Sunday but General Manager Seth Dudley told the Daily Iowan an east side restaurant could return:

We decided to close because we are getting close to opening our Coralville location. We’re consolidating our resources; once that location opens its doors, we’ll explore the possibility of opening a larger east side location.

The Hamburg Inn No. 2 at 214 N. Linn St. in downtown Iowa City is unaffected by the other restaurant's closure.

Construction continues on a new Coralville location, next to Popeye's at 750 Coral Ridge Avenue. It's expected to be larger than the downtown location and open sometime this spring. An estimated opening date has not been announced.
