May 2021 is the target date to have McGrath Amphitheatre's flood protection and restroom/storage facility completed.

The project will include a 7,500 square-foot and ADA-compliant building housing restrooms and office and storage space.

Construction has begun and it will be designed to serve up to 2,000 people per event.

Lack of adequate restroom facilities has long been a challenge at the McGrath Amphitheatre during events and this will serve as a solution.

Again, the building is ADA-compliant which will allow for handicapped-accessibility to the second-floor restrooms. Ramps in the back of the building will provide these accommodations.

Construction costs will amount to $4 million. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the target opening date in May of 2021 comes to fruition with a great events lineup after the Coronavirus pandemic has hopefully passed.

This is an innovative multi-purpose construction project that will also serve as further protection against devastating flooding disasters.

Uptown Friday Nights, which are usually held in the McGrath Amphitheatre every summer, are adjusting to the pandemic and construction this year by kicking off with a virtual performance by Slap 'n Tickle and Superknot on Facebook Live June 12. Your $5 donation will help the Cedar Rapids Jaycees, who hope to have the events back in the Amphitheatre by the end of summer. Your support will help them continue their mission and other programs with hope for a positive future.
