Eastern Iowa Town Named Best Place To Retire In U.S.
Even if you are a ways away from retiring, it's nice to know that the town you live in is the perfect place to enter this new stage of life.
A list recently came out from AARP about the best places to live in the United States for retirees. These nine cities and towns are the "best places to live and retire" in the entire country.
Many of the locations included on this list are towns located in the Midwest. These spots were chosen based on several factors; access to nature and recreational activities, relatively low cost of living, ease of getting around town, and good health care systems.
However, one name on the list might sound very familiar because it pretty much checks off all of the boxes: Cedar Falls.
Described as "midwest nice in a high tech town," Cedar Falls is inarguably our favorite town on this list. What makes this an ideal place to live or retire in is it's fiber broadband, according to AARP magazine.
“We have a nice mix of respecting and preserving our historical buildings and remembering our history, but I think we’re also still pretty progressive,” says retiree Kim Manning.
Another attractive aspect about the town, according to this report, is how walkable and bike-friendly the area is. All of the local community events that go on throughout the year like the farmer's market and other events are easily accessible.
“The community is apple pie and Americana,” says Kris Hansen, CEO of Western Home Communities. “It’s a city, but we’ve done a good job of hanging onto the culture of a small town," Hansen expressed to AARP.
The complete list includes:
Cedar Falls, Iowa
Idaho Falls, Idaho
Anderson, South Carolina
Fort Worth, Texas
Sioux Falls, South Dakota
The combination of nature, community, and history would make Cedar Falls (at least in my opinion) a great place to retire to.
Cedar Falls is also a hot spot for restaurants and bars. The area has seen quite a few new restaurants open up in the historic Downtown district. Carter House is open right next to the Black Hawk Hotel which opened late this summer. Also, a restaurant called Georges opened in the same spot that Santa's Workshop always resided in on Main Street
Snake Alley in Burlington, IA
Ashton Kutcher's Childhood Home in Homestead, Iowa
