Eastern Iowa School District To Offer Online School This Fall

Even though schools are back to most pre-pandemic activities and policies, one Eastern Iowa school district plans on offering fully online classes in the fall of 2022.

KWWL reports that the Dubuque Community School District will offer online classes to students in grades 6th through 12th starting this fall. When the district looked at the student population, they discovered that some students thrive in an online learning atmosphere, while others do better in a traditional classroom setting. Rather than forcing these students back to class, the online program was decided as a solution.

Officials with the district say that classes will be a mixture of both online and live classes and that the curriculum will differ a bit from in-person learning. KWWL reports that the staff for the online school will be hired from within the district. Currently, around 250 kids in the school district take their classes online. Officials say they expect that number to remain the same when online school is offered this fall.

KWWL says that registration will work the same as other schools. The virtual school will be an option for grades six through twelve during registration this spring.
